About Chew Hua Seng – Dong Hua University Development Foundation
In November 2007, Professor Chew Hua Seng, Chairman of Raffles Education Corporation, Singapore made a sizeable and personal donation to establish the “Chew Hua Seng Foundation”. Professor Chew Hua Seng will contribute a sum of RMB 100 million to set up the Foundation. The proceeds from this foundation shall be designated to specific funds. The total amount to be given to Donghua University under the “Chew Hua Seng Foundation” shall be RMB 5 million each year. This amount will be allocated to four specific funds, namely, the “Chew Hua Seng Chief Professor Fund”, the “Chew Hua Seng International Training Fund”, the “Chew Hua Seng Curriculum Development Fund” and the “Chew Hua Seng Outstanding Contribution Fund”.

Dear Mr. Chew Hua Seng, Mrs. Chew, Ladies and Gentlemen:
Good afternoon.
Today, it is our great honor to hold the Bursary award and signing ceremony of the Chew Hua Seng-Dong Hua University Development Foundation. I would like to express sincere appreciation to Mr. Chew Hua Seng on behalf of Dong Hua University for his long-term support in building and developing our University.
Approved by the China Textile Association and the Shanghai Bureau of Higher Education in 1994, Raffles Design Institute became one of the first joint-venture education organizations in Shanghai. After 13 years of hard work and progress; and with the sincere cooperation and support from Dong Hua University, Raffles Design Institute has today produced many outstanding graduates which are in demand by the industry. We are elated by their achievements and by their hard work. Congratulations!
As Chairman of Raffles Design Institute, Mr. Chew Hua Seng has experienced both the difficulties of starting a business and the joys of its success. He understands that Raffles Design Institute cannot develop alone without the help and support from Dong Hua University. Following the Chew Hua Seng Bursary Grant and Chew Hua Seng Awards to Lecturers established in 2003, we will be establishing the Chew Hua Seng-Dong Hua University Development Foundation with a capital funding of 100 million RMB. This Foundation will offer 5 million RMB to introduce Chief Professors of differing expertise to Dong Hua University; develop short-term international training programs for lecturers and staff; introduce and develop an international advanced curriculum and programme, and to encourage contributions from all faculties. Without a doubt this will positively and profoundly shape the future growth and development of Dong Hua University. We sincerely acknowledge and appreciate Mr. Chew Hua Seng’s generous support to education and society.
Today, another group of excellent students will be awarded the Chew Hua Seng Bursary Grant. To the students: we hope you will continue to make persistent efforts in your studies. While gaining professional knowledge, you should also develop the desire to give back to society. Dong Hua University will make full use of the Chew Hua Seng-Dong Hua University Development Foundation to achieve Dong Hua University’s goals of recruiting high caliber academic leaders, promoting overseas training of selected faculty, continuous curriculum development and rewarding those teachers and staff who have made outstanding contributions to the University.
Finally, we hope that, under the regulations of joint-venture education, Raffles Design Institute will continue its work hard, and develop progressively. Once again, thank you to Chairman Chew Hua Seng for his continuing support towards the development of Dong Hua University. We look forward to continued mutual cooperation and success!
